Our Story
Barakah Beauty Collective (BBC) is a women-centered space in Seattle dedicated to uplifting and supporting women through beauty, wellness, cultural preservation, and entrepreneurship. Founded with the vision of creating a safe and welcoming environment, BBC offers a place where women can connect, grow, and thrive together.
Our Founder
Michaela Corning founded her modest fashion brand in 2000, the year after embracing Islam. She is a Washington native who worked in a corporate B2B sales and client services career for over 20 years before following her passion full time.
After her brand michaelacorning.com took off in 2020, she decided to expand her footprint and open Barakah Beauty Collective to foster entrepreneurship within the Muslim community, focused on advancing other Muslim women to also follow their dreams outside the local tech giants. Serving the growing Muslim community, Barakah Beauty Collective is a safe space for women to enjoy pampering, shopping, and healing in a women-only environment.
Our Mission
At BBC, we believe women deserve more than just services — they deserve community, sisterhood, and support in every part of their journey. Our mission is to empower women of all backgrounds, especially Muslim women, women of color, immigrants, and refugees, by providing access to resources, opportunities, and care that help them flourish personally, culturally, and professionally.
What We Offer
Community: A safe space where women gather to build meaningful connections, celebrate each other, and grow together.
Sisterhood: A supportive network that uplifts women through friendship, encouragement, and shared experiences.
Wellness: Holistic services that honor mind and body — from facials and fitness to self-care experiences.
Heritage: A celebration of cultural preservation and traditions, with access to modest clothing, hijabs, and unique garments that reflect diverse backgrounds.
Entrepreneurship: A platform for women-owned businesses to thrive, offering services such as beauty, wellness, photography, health coaching, sewing, and more.
The Community Closet
One of the heartbeats of BBC is our Barakah Community Closet— the first of its kind in our area. We provide free or low-cost clothing, hijabs, and cultural garments to women in need, including refugees, low-income families, and new converts. With donations from women across the country, we can ship packages nationwide and offer in-person shopping that restores dignity and joy. The closet also preserves culture by showcasing how women around the world practice modesty in unique ways.
Our Partnership with Rabata
Barakah Beauty Collective is proud to be 501(C)(3) fiscally sponsored and supported by Rabata, a nonprofit dedicated to creating positive cultural change by uplifting Muslim women around the world. Through their guidance and partnership, BBC can expand its programs, strengthen its community impact, and sustain a model that bridges beauty, wellness, and cultural preservation with a long-term vision.
Why We’re Different
BBC is more than a salon, more than a boutique, and more than a community center. We are all of those things combined — a unique space that centers women first, grounded in inclusivity and culture. Our model is revolutionary in that it blends beauty and wellness with community building, heritage, and entrepreneurship, offering women a holistic place to belong.
