Threads of Renewal
Barakah Beauty Collective, in partnership with Muslim Women's Business Network and part of the City of Bellevue's Cross-Cultural Center Without Walls, is thrilled to announce Threads of Renewal, a celebration of cultural heritage, sustainable design, and the rich traditions woven into the fabric of our community! On September 20, 2026, we are bringing this vision to life at the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue, Washington, with a public runway event and marketplace that centers the creativity, craft, and entrepreneurial power of Muslim, immigrant, and refugee women. Something remarkable is being built here, and we want you to be part of it.
Registration for attendees will be coming soon, so keep an eye on this landing page for updates!
The Concept
Threads of Renewal is Michaela Corning's garment and design incubation program, in coordination with the Barakah Beauty Collective. The program is rooted in the textile heritage of Muslim, immigrant, and refugee women in King County. The program brings together emerging designers and skilled seamstresses to develop original, sustainable modest fashion collections using reclaimed and donated materials, peer mentorship, and the living cultural knowledge each woman carries from their own heritage tradition. The fashion show is the public celebration of that work: a runway where every garment tells a story, and every story belongs to our community.
Get Involved
Whether you sew, design, style, sell, or simply want to show up and support, there is a place for you in this event. Here is how you can participate.
Designers and Seamstresses
We are looking for emerging designers from Muslim, immigrant, and diaspora communities who are ready to develop and present an original collection on the runway. Collections will be built through sustainable and ethical practices, and participating designers have access to mentorship, workspace, donated textiles, and support through BBC's incubation program. If you have a design vision rooted in your cultural heritage and a commitment to sustainable fashion, we want to hear from you.
The women who build the garments are just as central to this work as the women who design them. We are actively seeking skilled seamstresses to collaborate with designers in constructing their collections. This is paid, credited, professional work, and your craft heritage is an essential part of what makes Threads of Renewal possible.

Vendors
The Threads of Renewal Fashion Show will feature a marketplace hosting local vendors alongside the runway. If you are a local business owner with products to sell, and passion to display, we would love to have you. Vendor applications are open to businesses in fashion, jewelry, beauty, food, art, and more.

Sponsors
Threads of Renewal is made possible by the generosity of sponsors who believe in what we are building. By sponsoring this event, you are directly supporting Muslim, immigrant, and refugee women designers and seamstresses as they bring their cultural heritage and creative vision to a regional stage. You are investing in sustainable fashion, community-owned entrepreneurship, and the kind of cultural representation that King County needs more of.
We welcome both corporate and individual sponsors who are aligned with our mission and excited to be part of something meaningful. Sponsorship opportunities range from event production and accessibility features, such as live interpretation and venue costs, to designer stipends, vendor support, and community programming throughout the summer. Whether you are a company looking to demonstrate a genuine commitment to equity and sustainability, or an individual who wants to invest directly in women-led creative work, we would love to talk about how we can partner together.
FAQ
When and where is the event?
The Crosscultural Fashion Show takes place on September 20, 2026 at the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue, Washington. Registration for attendees will be coming soon, so keep an eye on this landing page for updates!
Who is this event for?
This event is for everyone. The show is designed to be family-friendly and welcoming to attendees of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. We are especially proud to celebrate and center Muslim, immigrant, and refugee women, and we warmly welcome allies, artists, designers, and anyone who values culture, sustainability, and creative expression.
Do I need professional experience to participate as a designer or model?
No. We are looking for passion, cultural connection, and commitment, not resumes. If you have a story to tell through fashion, we want to support you in telling it. Throughout the summer leading up to the show, we will be hosting workshops and programming focused on upcycling, sustainable design, and garment construction, so you will have plenty of opportunity to learn and grow alongside our community before you ever step on the runway.
What does sustainable and ethical production mean for this event?
Sustainability is at the heart of Threads of Renewal, but we know it looks different for every maker. Participating designers and seamstresses will have access to BBC's community closet, a curated collection of reclaimed and donated textiles available for upcycling into original pieces. If you have your own sustainable sourcing practices you would like to bring to your collection, we are open to that too. What matters to us is that the work is intentional, ethical, and rooted in care for both community and planet.
What does it mean to participate as a designer?
Participating in the Crosscultural Fashion Show is not just a one-day opportunity. Designers who join the program become part of the BBC community throughout the months leading up to the event, with access to our collective workspace, peer mentorship, and guidance from experienced business owners including BBC founder Michaela Corning. You will have support developing your brand, building your collection, and preparing to present your work on the runway. We are invested in your growth, not just your garments.
Is the event accessible?
Accessibility is a core priority for us. The Meydenbauer Theatre is fully wheelchair accessible, and we are committed to making the event navigable for community members of all abilities. We are also working to provide live interpretation in Arabic, Dari, and Spanish.
